In April 2016, the team at Vasta Retreats undertook a research project with 15 Retreat attendees to prove this holistic retreat actually improves your overall health in a multiple of measurable ways.

The results were outstandingly positive in all the 3 areas tested.

This study supports similar results in scientific literature world wide on the benefits of meditation, yoga, positive thinking and healthy eating.

The participants had the following tested before and at the end of the 5 day Vasta Retreat.

Ph – this is a measure of the acidity of the body. An alkaline state of 7.0 is ideal for optimal health.  Diet and lifestyle including stress are major causes of an acidic body.  If you have a health problem, most likely you are acidic. Research shows that unless the body’s pH level is slightly alkaline, the body cannot heal itself.  If your body’s pH is not balanced, you cannot effectively assimilate vitamins, minerals and food supplements. Your body pH affects everything.

Saliva Cortisol Levels – cortisol is our stress hormone and many of us have abnormal cortisol levels from chronic stress, poor sleep, disease or unhealthy lifestyle choices. Stress has been identified as the reason for 75 – 90% of all visits to any health practitioner! Cortisol is a hormone, almost every cell contains receptors for cortisol and so cortisol can have lots of different actions in the body. These effects include controlling the body’s blood sugar levels and thus regulating metabolism, acting as an anti-inflammatory, influencing memory formation, controlling salt and water balance, influencing blood pressure and mood – just to name a few.

DASS – Mood and Stress Questionnaire – this is an internationally recognized tool to measure the level of Depression, Anxiety and Stress in the individual through a series of specific questions – it also assesses the effects this stress is having on the body and its brain chemistry.

 The Results

Ph – a natural, unprocessed diet of local produce can produce a positive effect on the acidity of the body in just 5 days. Of the participants none experienced a worsening of their acidity and 71% experienced an improvement – that is their body’s became more alkaline.

Cortisol Level -5 days of meditation, yoga, positive thinking and healthy food at the Vasta Retreat resulted in a measurable positive change in 93% of participants.

DASS – Mood and Stress Appraisal – once again positive results – 92 % experienced a reduction in stress and anxiety and an improvement in mood.
